Chal yaar, chill maar!

“Oh Damn, I’m running late!”= Stress!
“Budget is running low!”= Stress!
“Assignments are pending!”= More stress!!
“Oh God, why is there so much oil on this plate?”= Even more stress!!!

Why do we worry so much? We worry about anything and everything, from missing a metro train to failing at the most trivial thing at work. Most of the times we procrastinate and hence end up rushing each and every task at hand which is again responsible for amplifying our stress levels. But what is stress after all about? According to psychologists, stress is a by-product of poor or inadequate coping. When we are faced with any kind of pressure, conflict or frustration, and are not able to cope with them, we start stressing. While biologically this kind of arousal is meant to amp us up and help us deal with the situation at hand, it can however many a times, deteriorate our performances and lower our happiness.
What do I preach ye, the reader? Ironically, while I write this article, I myself am under a lot of pressure to win the Content Writer of the Week Award.
So all this tension, all this worrying- is it really necessary? Have we ever paused and thought that most of our problems can become twice easier to handle if we just stop thinking so much about them! From a poor internet connection to a dress which doesn’t fit, from a traffic jam to “log kya kahenge,” everything can be fixed and nothing is more important, or, in that case, precious, than your own happiness! Do you eat for others? Or do you breathe for the “Pados Wali Aunty”? No? Then why do you stress for them?
Friends! Live, Laugh, Breathe. Put your stressing caps away and smile. Let some endorphins flow. Allow them to make you happy. Do what you like. Read, sing, write, watch a movie, or just stroll around and freshen yourself up. Watch Harry Potter for the umpteenth time and as our dear Dumbledore has very brilliantly said, “Happiness can be found even in the darkest times if one remembers to turn on the lights.”
